Further to minute no. 28 (25 November 2014), it was reported that a consultation had been carried with the borough council?s licensed hackney carriage trade as well as members of the public via publication in the local press (Lancashire Evening Post) and on the council?s website.

Letters had been sent out to licensed hackney carriage vehicle proprietors and hackney carriage drivers asking if they were ?For? or ?Against? the proposals put forward by the ?South Ribble Taxi Owners Association?.

A total number of 148 letters were sent out in the post to the above on 3 December 2014 and responses had to be in by no later than Friday, 2 January 2015.

After the closing date, the responses collated were as follows:

FOR: 35

AGAINST: 7

NO RESPONSE: 106

There were no responses received from members of the public.

With the permission of the committee, representatives from the association addressed the meeting and circulated a document with the reasons why the taxi tariffs should be increased.

The committee was then asked to determine whether it wished to approve or reject the proposed hackney carriage fare increase.

RESOLVED (UNANIMOUS): that the press and public be excluded from the meeting during the consideration of the following items of business as it involved the discussion of information which was defined as exempt from publication under paragraphs 1 and 2 (information relating to an individual and information which was likely to reveal the identity of an individual) of Part I of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972 and in which the public interest in maintaining the exemption outweighed the public interest in disclosing it.
